-
Does Empower Medical only serve LGBTQ+ patients? Not at all! While Dr. Kelly has expertise in LGBTQ+ Health, and in working specifically with the LGBTQ+ population, he is a proud Board Certified Family Medicine physician, and is happy to work with patients of all sexual orientations and gender identities, treating a variety of conditions across the healthcare spectrum. All are welcome to make an appointment and receive the "Care You Deserve"!
-
How do the appointments work?Patients schedule an appointment through our website or via email. Shortly before your scheduled appointment, you will receive a link to connect to a secure virtual platform through your computer or smart device. Patients have shared that receiving the link via text through their smartphone or laptop is most convenient. Please ensure you are in a private location, and connected to Wifi with a strong signal so that both audio and video work well. If you do not connect within 5 minutes, Dr. Kelly will call the phone number on file and convert the visit to a telephone consult.
-
Do I need a membership plan to Empower Medical in order to meet with Dr. Kelly? The short answer is no. While our membership plans provide an excellent discounted price as well as additional features including exclusive discounts on labs and a secure messaging platform, à la carte pricing is available for pay-as-you-need telemedicine consults. Pricing and details are available on our website. If you would like to set up a free initial 10-minute consultation to review all of this with Dr. Kelly, see our home page for details.
-
Do I need to get labs? With any prescription medication, it is important to obtain monitoring and screening labs in order to ensure safety. There are several ways patients can choose to get their labs done including: using your own healthcare insurance with a physician order from Dr. Kelly, or paying out-of-pocket using a commercial lab of your choice. Ask us about options we recommend, including companies we have a relationship with that may offer significant discounts.
-
How frequently is it recommended that I meet with Dr. Kelly? This really depends on your individual healthcare needs. Typically, those who are on PrEP and/or PEP, quarterly visits (i.e. every 3 months) are adequate, although intermittent appointments may sometimes be needed. For those on gender affirming hormone therapy, visits can often be monthly in the beginning, followed by every 2-3 months, depending on your progress; once on a stable dose, every 6 months tends to be the most common. Depending on these factors, and your individual needs and preferences, a membership to Empower Medical may be the best option for you. Feel free to discuss this with Dr. Kelly at your visit.
-
Does Empower Medical serve individuals under 18 years of age?As a Family Medicine physician, Dr. Kelly is happy to meet with individuals under 18 years of age, but we are not currently prescribing hormone therapy to this age group. We can certainly assist with referral for consultation with a pediatric endocrinologist if needed.
-
Why don't you accept my healthcare insurance? As a small, independent company, we do not have the staffing or infrastructure required to keep up with the regulatory and operational complexities involved in accepting private and public healthcare insurance. However, we are proud to offer reasonable prices for our visits and memberships. We can refer patients to other local healthcare organizations that take insurance upon request.
-
If I pay for a membership, do I need to purchase a separate "New Patient" visit? No, your "New Patient" visit is included in the price of all levels of membership, and will count towards total number of visits.
-
Can I cancel my membership at any time? Please refer to the cancellation policy for details. However, in many instances, Empower Medical will work with patients to arrange a partial refund if able.
-
What if I need more appointments than included in my membership level?Depending on the details of your individual circumstance, we can either add appointments using à la carte pricing, or by upgrading to a higher membership tier. Please discuss details with Dr. Kelly over the portal.
-
What if don't use all of the appointments available in my membership? The individual tiers of membership come with a maximum number of potential visits. It is important to plan your usage throughout the duration of your membership. Due to operating cost restraints, we are unable to refund members for any "unused" appointments remaining at the end of their membership period. Please work with Dr. Kelly to ensure that all of your questions are answered during your membership related to your available appointments. Thank you for understanding.
